Expert Wanted

Do you know a freestyle skiing coach in your community you think would be an ideal candidate to be MomsTeam's freestyle skiing expert? Send his or her name to info@momsteam.com [5].

Freestyle: Pronunciation: \?fr?-?st?(-?)l\
a competition in which the contestant is given more latitude than in related events

Freestyle skiing is a fun, acrobatic, risky mountain sport that began in the 1930s. Some people believed that this style of skiing was too dangerous because it had few rules and knee injuries were common. The International Ski Federation did not recognize freestyle skiing as a sport until 1979, and, with that, made regulations about jump techniques and other dangerous parts of these competitions.

If your child wants to learn how to freestyle, they should take regular skiing lessons first because if they have not mastered the proper form and balance, free styling could be very dangerous for them. As in any type of skiing, make sure your child wears the proper protective gear, especially helmets!

MomsTeam's goal is to provide comprehensive information on freestyle skiing: advice on the equipment needed and how to buy it, a primer on the rules of the sport, and videos and advice from experts, parents, and manufacturers of freestyle skiing gear.

But to do that we are going to need your help. If you are a parent of a child who freestyles or has freestyled, we hope you will share what you have learned with other MomsTeam parents. Please consider writing a blog, contributing an article, posting on and/or hosting a Forum, or becoming a freestyling expert. If you know of someone who used to freestyle or coach freestyling who has knowledge to share, ask him or her to join. Together we can make MomsTeam a true community of sports parents!

What to Look For In a Ski School [11]
Teaching a child to ski isn't like starting her off in softball or soccer. You can't just go out in the backyard and start tossing or kicking a ball around. It is usually in the child's best interest, and well worth the investment, to enroll her in a qualified ski school so she can get proper instruction based on her age and ability, even if you are an experienced skier.
