Suzanne Nelson, Sc. D, R.D. currently works with college athletes and is a nutrition health adviser for Sun-Maid. Previously, she was the team nutritionist for the San Francisco 49ers and provided nutrition consultation to the San Francisco Giants. She was previously the Head of Sports Nutrition for Cal Athletics at the University of California at Berkeley, for Velocity Sports Performance - San Carlos, and Stanford’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. and, earlier, as Director of Sports Nutrition in the Athletic Department at the University of Washington. She was previously Chair, Graduate Nutrition Education Department, Immaculata College, and Clinical Director of the Weight and Eating Disorders Center at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she completed a fellowship in adolescent medicine. Dr. Nelson was a consulting nutritionist to USA Wrestling and a member of the nutrition advisory committee for USA Swimming. Dr. Nelson has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and articles for fitness magazines. She co-authored the books Ultimate Sports Nutrition,and Play Hard Eat Right: A Parents' Guide to Sports Nutrition for Children and co-edited Nutrition for Sport and Exercise, and also authored a continuing education course for health professionals on Nutrition for the Young Athlete. Dr. Nelson has lectured extensively on sports nutrition to athletes,coaches, and health professionals and has been interviewed on local and national television. She has earned the following degrees: BS (Psychology and Neuroscience), Ursinus College; MS (Clinical Nutrition), Drexel University; ScD (Nutritional Science),Boston University. Dr. Nelson is a Registered Dietitian (RD) with the American Dietetic Association.
