An essential part of the MomsTeam mission is to make youth sports as inclusive as possible. It is just as important for youth with disabilities to be physically active and have the opportunity to participate in sports as non-disabled children.
Fortunately, enormous progress has been made in recent years in providing opportunities for kids with disabilities to participate in sports and recreation. There are several large national organizations that provide sports and recreation programs for disabled youth athletes, while numerous local communities have implemented adaptive recreational programs though their parks and recreation departments.
MomsTeam is committed to the goal of providing as much information on parenting the disabled athlete as we do to parents of non-disabled athletes. But to do that, we are going to need your help. If you are parent of a disabled child who has participated or is participating in sports, we hope you will share what you have learned with the rest of the MomsTeam community. Please consider writing a blog, contributing an article, posting on and/or hosting a Forum, or becoming our MomsTeam expert on parenting the disabled athlete. If you know of someone who you think has knowledge to share, ask him or her to join or contact us. Together we can make MomsTeam and youth sports the inclusive places they both should be!
