Figure Skating: Skilled and Artistic
Figure Skating: skating characterized by the performance of various jumps, spins, and dance movements and formerly by the tracing of prescribed figures
Figure skating is a fun, artistic sport that requires a lot of practice, skill, speed, agility, and balance. Generally, figure skaters start at a very young age because it takes years to perfect skating alone, never mind the spins, jumps, and intricate footwork it takes to be a figure skater.
Although the spins and jumps sound dangerous, and sometimes are, some rinks use harness systems to help skaters learn these moves and practice them without them getting hurt. Also, skaters sometimes use crash pads to cushion the fall when learning new moves. Figure skating is a great form of exercise and can be competed at local, national, and international competitions, as well as the Winter Olympic Games.
MomsTeam's goal is to provide comprehensive information on figure skating: advice on the equipment needed and how to buy it, a primer on the rules of the sport, and videos and advice from experts, parents, and manufacturers of figure skating gear.
But to do that we are going to need your help. If you are a parent of a child who figure skates or has figure skated, we hope you will share what you have learned with other MomsTeam parents. Please consider writing a blog, contributing an article, posting on and/or hosting a Forum, or becoming a figure skating expert. If you know of someone who used to figure skate or coach figure skating who has knowledge to share, ask him or her to join. Together we can make MomsTeam a true community of sports parents!
