Helmets
Kayakers, whether in whitewater or calm water, have a tendency to roll over, leaving their heads vulnerable to impacts with rocks or other objects in the water. A solid, well fitting kayak helmet is a must if you or your child is going to hit the river. Many kayak helmets feature internal cradles that stay spaced apart from the outer hard shell, increasing drainage efficiency when waterlogged; most, however, feature a dense foam inner shell for shock absorption. Kayak helmets are also designed to stay firmly on the head, even while submerged in swiftly moving water.
