Sports agent Sheryl Shade says the answer to the question of when to hire a sports agent is complicated and depends on many factors, including the athlete's sport, the goals of the athlete and their family, and whether the athlete is prepared to give up college eligibility.  She recommends that, before contacting a sports agent, the athlete talk to their coach first.
