Football: Hard Hitting and Popular
Football: Pronunciation: \fut-ˌbol\
any of several games played between two teams on a usu. rectangular field having goalposts or goals at each end and whose object is to get the ball over a goal line, into a goal, or between goalposts by running, passing, or kicking
Football is a team sport combining fierce physical contact (sometimes at high speed) with strategy. The helmets and protective pads players wear do not, and cannot, completely protect them from injury. Despite of, and perhaps because it is such a physically challenging sport requiring strength, agility and speed, football has remained the most popular sport at the high school level, with over a million players. Indeed, in communities in many parts of the country, football is an important part of their very identity.
Programs at the youth level also abound, with programs run under the auspices of either American Youth Football or Pop Warner in most communities. Pop Warner is notable for requiring its players to meet and maintain certain minimum standards of academic performance in order to play, increasing the likelihood that parents won't have to hound their children to do their homework!
MomsTeam's goal is to provide comprehensive information on football: advice on the equipment needed and how to buy it, a primer on the rules of the sport, critical safety information, and videos and advice from experts, parents, and manufacturers of football gear.
But to do that we are going to need your help. If you are a parent of a child who plays or has played football, we hope you will share what you have learned with other MomsTeam parents. Please consider writing a blog, contributing an article, posting on and/or hosting a Forum, or becoming a football expert. If you know of someone who used to play or coach football who has knowledge to share, ask him or her to join. Together we can make MomsTeam a true community of football parents.
