For many who experience early athletic success, the reason is that they are so-called early bloomers, children who simply develop ahead of their peers physically and/or psychologically, not that they are gifted athletes. No wonder research suggests that only one in four children who are star athletes in elementary school will still be stars when they reach high school.
For parents of those athletes with real talent, special challenges await. The pressures on the athlete and her parents are enormous: increased expectations, stress, expense, risk of burnout, and overuse injuries, to name just a few. MomsTeam will offer advice from experts and moms on what it's like to parent an elite athlete.
Our goal is to provide comprehensive information and advice on parenting the elite athlete . But to do that, we are going to need your help. If you are parent of an elite athlete, we hope you will share what you have learned with other MomsTeam parents. Please consider writing a blog, contributing an article, posting on and/or hosting a Forum. If you know of someone who you think has knowledge to share, ask him or her to join or contact us. Together we can make parenting the elite athlete less stressful and more enjoyable for both parent and child.
