Fun & skill development VS Winning

It is very important that as coach, you are clear that the most important is to develop the skills and formation of the kids, helping them to improve, be better players, and to play as a team. It is also very important that they have fun. Remember that everyone wants to win and that winning is important but not he most important, due to the fact that you have to teach them to learn from their mistakes, learn from their defeats, and to stand up and keep going. As a good coach you should plant values in your players so that they can achieve their goals; this will make them better persons in the future.

Agree to a point. Some

Agree to a point. Some people try to have sports / coaches raise their kids. Yes, we as coaches should have good values because we can be a positive influence on the players. But we only see them a few hours weekly, they are sculpted at home. Kids like to win, kids play sports because they like to try to win. I tell my kids that it's not the winning, but the "trying" to win that's important. No one wins all the time, that's just a simple fact. But that means you don't try. Even if you play a team that's much much better, you just try to do your best. Many kids give up when they feel they can't win.

Oftentimes when there is a

Oftentimes when there is a serious mismatch, I've noticed my team playing Up to the better teams level. Even if they don't win, oftentimes the feelings at the end seem to be the same as if the kids had actually won, "Hey, we played really well against them!" or "We've never played so well." The act of trying to win is definitely very important. I never tell my kids to go out there and win, trying to win is the same as going out and doing your best. That being said, you may not realize just how great an impact a few hours a week can be on a child's development.. especially during certain ages and in the heightened emotional arena of sports...
