generally I think it's a terrible idea to eat at fast food restaurants, sometimes I've been in the situation where my team is in the middle of nowhere or no other restaurants are still open and we eat burger king or something. I think fast food should be a last resort, after looking for other options like Subway or local sandwich/pizza shops. I often have parents pack lunches for later if I know we may be getting back late.

I vote for wendy's on the road. But never ever never let them near that salad bar! What a problem it can cause for some kids. Seriously it causes the runs for some kids while they are playing.
I loved stopping at local supermarkets when I traveled around with my sons during their tournaments. Deli bars usually have decent prices and selections. Our favorites were the roasted chickens and meat pies, and soup during the winter and sandwiches in the summer. Some of the markets around the US are fabuloius. It may be fun to start rating them. My favorite in the Boston area are Crosby's Marketplaces and Shaws.
Crosby's is a small family run chain with VERY fresh food. Generally the employees average 15-20 years of working and take lots of pride. Most really seem to know the kids and what they like--soo my bet is try one of them first then look for Shaws or Roache Brothers in the Boston area.

If 'location, location, location" is the mantra for real estate, then "planning, planning, planning" has to be the mantra for youth sports. Stock the basics in a cooler for the entire season: granola bars, water, peanut butter & crackers, sunflower seeds (for mom :) and sports drinks. This can get you through back-to-back games on a field in the middle of nowhere.
When you have more time, I like Brooke's idea of going into a supermarket. All of the chain stores in our area now seem to have salad bars, sandwich bars, chinese food, fresh deli and of course, a coffee bar (again, for mom :) My son's favorite? teriyaki chicken over brown rice. It's quick and can be eaten in the bleachers or the car.
