Has title IX been good for the emotional health of girls?

It certainly has been for my girls! Our high school recently got a girls' volleyball team because the boys got a football team. It has been an amazingly positive experience and I know that without Title IX the team would not exist.

Best thing ever

You bet it has been good. A huge new economy opened up and many more girls are now feeling the specialnees of sports.

Where are all the women coaches?

Joe,

To your point, yes, the sports economy now is a huge and big business but what has not been good is the disapearance of female coaches. My mother and aunts all had only female coaches and talk about how important it was for them growwing up. I think it should be more equatable. Any thoughjts on that?

Mandating of female coaches?

I am curious if anyone knows of any school districts whom have taken title IX one step beyond by madating equal coaching for men and women? I am aware of a number of schools that have a policy of men will coach the boys and women the girls as long as they are qualified. Seems reasonable, no?

Equality in sports

We are working on it and may have news soon.

Equality in our league

Our town is working on a new league handbook and we will add that we need to have equal men and women--at least offer the jobs to more women.

I don't mean to throw a wrench into your plans, but why mandate having women coaches when no one wants to do it? So let's say you have a jop opening and you have 5 coaches who have all the credentials to be a coach, but they are men? So do you go find a woman and give her the job?

This is a little like the lack of black college football coaches. Shouldn't schools be allowed to hire who they want as coaches, and not be mandated by a rule?
